PS4 13.52 Jailbreak: New Progress Brings Hope for Higher Firmware

Things are starting to get interesting again for PS4 owners on newer firmware.

Right now, firmware 13.52 is getting a lot of attention in the PS4 jailbreak scene, with developers working on the pieces needed to bring newer systems closer to a usable jailbreak.

Recent scene reports say developer Mansoor has been working on a WebKit/userland entry point for PS4 firmware 13.52 and has talked about releasing that work publicly. (PS Homebrew Daily)

That’s important because a WebKit entry point gives developers a way into the system, but it’s only one part of the process. A complete jailbreak normally needs additional vulnerabilities and tools working together before users get the kind of experience they’re used to with GoldHEN.

And that’s where expectations need to stay realistic.

PS4 13.52 does not currently mean “install GoldHEN and you’re done.”

The scene is making progress, but development and testing still need to happen before we can call 13.52 a complete, stable jailbreak environment.

For anyone already sitting on firmware 13.52, there’s also very little reason to rush into an update if homebrew is something you’re interested in. Newer firmware can patch vulnerabilities that developers are currently researching.

We’ve seen this story many times in the PlayStation scene: today’s unsupported firmware can become tomorrow’s jailbreak target.

For now, 13.52 is definitely one to watch.

GoldenGamesNexus will continue following the PS4 scene and we’ll post another update when the 13.52 work becomes publicly available and we can see exactly what it can do.
