Playden PS5 0.6.0 Is Here!

Developer leolobato has released Playden for PS5 version 0.6.0, bringing another major update to the homebrew application that allows compatible Windows and Steam games to run on jailbroken PlayStation 5 consoles.

Playden uses a Windows compatibility environment based on Wine, alongside graphics technologies including DXVK and vkd3d-proton.

The new release introduces several features focused on game imports, display options, file management, and compatibility.

What's New in Version 0.6.0?

1. Import Windows Games Without Steam

One of the biggest additions is the ability to import Windows games from USB storage, M.2 drives, or FTP.

Users can import existing Windows game folders without requiring a Steam account. Games can be launched from their existing location or copied into Playden.

2. 120Hz Output Support

With runtime kit 0.12, Playden now supports 120Hz output on compatible displays for games using DXVK, vkd3d-proton, and OpenGL.

Frame-rate limit options include 30, 40, 60, 120, and unlimited.

3. 4K Resolution Option

A new 3840 × 2160 resolution option is available in Game Settings for games that support it.

4. Improved Download and Setup Queue

The Downloads tab has been renamed Queue.

The new screen displays downloads and game preparation tasks, including waiting operations and options to prioritize setup.

5. Better File and Mod Management

Playden now preserves game files modified or added through FTP, including mods.

The application also stores its user data separately from the main application folder, helping preserve settings and downloaded content during application updates.

More Windows Games Added to the Compatibility List

The developer has published additional test results for Windows games running through Playden.

Newly listed working titles include:

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

Stray

TUNIC

Left 4 Dead 2

DOOM + DOOM II

Euro Truck Simulator 2

Tetris Effect: Connected

Death's Door

South Park: The Stick of Truth

Moonlighter

Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove

GRIS

FEZ

Bastion

METAL SLUG 3

These games appear in the project's working compatibility category, although results can vary between games and configurations.

Not every Windows game is compatible. The developer also documents partially working titles and games that currently fail to run.

Additional Fixes and Improvements

Version 0.6.0 also addresses several reported issues, including:

Missing Microsoft MFC libraries required by certain games.

Installation failures affecting games with multiple launch options.

Incorrect storage calculations for some game downloads.

Files remaining after interrupted uninstall operations.

Game preparation failures related to folder permissions.

Queue interruptions when exiting Playden.

Important Limitations

Playden remains alpha software.

The developer confirms that online multiplayer through Steam is not currently supported. Games requiring additional launchers, including certain EA and Rockstar titles, also remain unsupported.

The application uses a real Steam account for Steam functionality, and the developer warns users about the risks involving stored sign-in tokens and Steam Cloud saves.

Firmware 13.60 is the developer's documented testing environment. Other firmware versions are not officially confirmed through those tests.
